Silver Cypress (chamecyparis pisifera 'Boulevard')
The Silver Cypress, also known as the Boulevard Cypress, is a dense, upright, broadly pyramidal, symmetrical small tree which is grown for its handsome foliage. It has soft, silvery blue-green leaves; Awl shaped, curving with a fine point but not prickly. Responds well to training and sculpting, so they are excellent choices for bonsai. Evergreen tree with a bronze winter color if exposed to wind. Good heat tolerance. Keep outdoors.

Lava Rock is a naturally occurring volcanic cinder that has a porous structure which makes the material lightweight and highly moisture retentive. Incorporate into your bonsai soil mix to increase drainage (aeration). It will absorb up to 40% of its weight in water. Small lava rock (1/4 to 3/8 inch) is the best "sand" component around because it is "sharp" and has very irregular surfaces.

The Italian Cypress or Mediterranean Cypress is a great indoor bonsai tree which can be grown singularly or in groups. Originally found in the eastern Mediteranean area, this bonsai is susceptible to the cold which means that either you must bring it indoors during the winter or grow it in a fairly warm climate. These bonsai look amazing when grown in small forest groups. They feature fine green/gray foliage which actually grows in flattened sprays. They also grow "cool looking" tiny elongated brown cones during the year, something that is somewhat rare in bonsai.

Image: Flowering Mimosa Bonsai Tree - Large (leucaena glauca)Flowering Mimosa Bonsai Tree - Large (leucaena glauca) - Sale Price: $59.95
The Mimosa loves sun and is drought tolerant. It folds its leaves under water stress, preventing water loss and under severe conditions it will defoliate until the rains return. The Mimosa can bloom throughout the year. Flowers are white with a white base, looking like white pom poms and are self-fertilizing. It takes about four months after flowering for the long flattened pods to mature and liberate seeds. The Mimosa seeds have a hard coat which requires scarification (abrasion) and germination is usually 6-10 days after sowing. Fun tree and easy indoor care.
