The Flowering Dwarf Pink Powderpuff is an evergreen tropical tree that is native to Ecuador. The Powderpuff is named after its whimsical pink and white flowers. Other interesting features are the flower buds which resemble raspberries and the leaves which close up at night or during drought. The Powderpuff grows more horizontally than vertically and new growth sprouts are reddish in color. Sporadic pink and white Powderpuff flowers appear during summer. Great indoor bonsai.

The navigator Louis de Bougainville (1729-1811) gave his name to this genus. Originally from tropical and subtropical America. Popularly known as the "Paper Flower". Very delicate deep pink flowers that look like paper, hence the name "Paper Flower". Actually, the flowers are bracts of leaves at the tip of the stems that turn brilliant pink in color. Great for indoors.
